Barefoot Shoes without the Public Ridicule., January 28, 2011 - By  NoCoDreamin-
Step 1: Read "Born to Run"Step 2: Begin the journey to reclaim your genetic rights to a barefoot existence.I spotted these shoes on one of the many barefoot running blogs and websites and couldn't wait to get a hold of them. I have slowly transitioned to barefoot running like so many thousands of others who were inspired by "Born to Run," and while I'm very far from becoming an shoeless Ultra Marathoner, I am a dedicated convert. Since retraining my feet and lower legs in my Vibram Five Fingers, the rest of the expensive outdoorsy cushioned shoes in my closet just feel terrible. My hope for these Merrell Pace Gloves is to have a shoe to wear when I'm not running that complements all of the benefit I have received from running in Vibram Five Fingers. Out of the box, these shoes are extremely light weight with the look and feel of a high quality Merrell product and I'm very happy with the look of the Chili Pepper color. I can definitely wear these as a casual shoe with a nicer outfit and feel great about the style. In slipping them on, the soles are very flexible and followed the point and flex of my foot and there are minimal seams on the inside. At first, they seemed long in the toes, which didn't make sense because I always wear a 7 1/2 in Merrells, but this is obviously on purpose. The width of the ball of my foot perfectly fit into the contours of the sole and the extra length allowed for spread of my toes within my stide -- this is very important and I am actually quite impressed with how well this was accomplished. I walked around the house and hopped on the treadmill for a few minutes and the shoes successfully encourange me to support my weight through the ball of my foot with a forefoot/midfoot strike. They were very comfortable while running and my toes still had room to spread without constriction. So far, these seem like an outstanding shoe!

I am trying to work on my posture and balance and continue my yoga practice advancement, so I was very interested in the barefoot shoe. I just got them and I have to say they are awesome. They fit like a glove. I think maybe I got really lucky with sizing. I got them in chili pepper and they are the cutest little low profile shoes.I will update as I start running/wogging in them.Word of caution. I have very narrow feet and these hug like crazy. I would think if you have wide feet, these shoes would literally rub you the wrong way.So far out of the box.... love them!Update 6/28/2011: I still love these shoes. I would rather wear them instead on my slippers. A couple things I noticed. The color bleeds (chili pepper) the first sign of sweat i had pink socks. Second, if my feet swell even a little, they get uncomfortable. Otherwise, I love these shoes and get many compliments on them.

This is my second pair of the Moab's and third pair of Merrell's overall.I love these hiking shoes. They are very comfortable and require littlebreak-in. They are also light and durable. My last pair lasted 4 years andI wear them for everyday shoes as well as walking/hiking at least oncea week. I have noticed that they run a little small. I wear a size ten andthe 10.5's fit really well.

I've tried the Danner Mountain Boots, Jungles, and Cold Weather Aftermarket Danners to wear over here in Afghanistan for the last six months.I have to say that these boots are the best I've owned in 9 years of Military Service. Granted, you can't wear them in Garrison but if you want a pair of light boots that help you run up and down rocky mountains while wearing a full combat load doing cartwheels then these boots are for you.You can feel the rocks under your feet as the rubber soles but it doesn't hurt at all- but I have a definite feeling of good traction when I am moving up these goat trails and random rock formations.They're super light compared to any issue boots, about a half what jungles weigh.Also, you don't have to break these in whatsoever. I put them on the night before, walked to get some food and back, then wore them on a 9k dismounted patrol the next day. No blisters or anything.Anyhow, I love mine.

I like this product and have been a loyal Merrell user for about a decade now. As I get older and counterintuitively, more active, I've noticed a need for more arch support in my footwear. When I buy Merrell's, I immediately throw out the factory insole and buy an after-market product. The people who sold me that insole mentioned that major shoe manufacturers have given up on high quality insoles because the after-market ones are of high quality and can be customized for individual fit.Im my experience, high quality insoles help provide a proper arch and heel support and complement the otherwise high quality of the shoe to make for prolonged used of the product. With proper insoles, I also don't get the tired beaten-up feet at the end of the day.Having said all that, I think high quality shoes should stand on their own merit. After having paid $125, I should not have to pay another $50 to use it.

I purchase this shoe originally because I work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.I have tried many other waterproof shoes and weatherproof boots, usually the ones that were the most watertight were the ones that were big and clunky and uncomfortable.I have been looking for a while and stumbled across this pair of Gore-tex shoes.I ordered a pair and wore them the next day pushing carts in pouring rain.I worked outside for about 8 hours that day, and my feet stayed completely dry and even better, they were very comfortable all day too!I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone for just about any type of use involving walking and different weather conditions.

This shoe walks me! I guess that means that most other shoes fight the natural ergonomics of human stride, heel to toe! It is impressive! But beware, Merrell shoes run SMALL!I wear 9 1/2 to 10. This shoe fits me at 11 1/2!I have a very similar Merrell low top hiking shoe; but it is size 11! So for mail order, MAKE SURE RETURN IS FREE! Otherwise you will have to pay as I did to return for correct size. This shoe came as an Amazon purchase from ShoeMall!ShoeMall said I was not their customer so they do not pay for return shipping. Amazon paid what ShoeMall would pay = $7.00, but the cost with FedEx was $15.80 to return.OK!I love the shoe.
